Greetings! As we progress through the second trimester of the 2008-2009 school year, and have come to the mid point of the school year, please take some time with your student to review their academic progress. For some students, success in learning grade level standards depends on their grades and effort from this point forward. Students have been informed if they are on academic probation and were given a parent information letter and a tutoring form in December. Please seriously consider signing your child up for tutoring which is offered both before and after school.
As we enter the final half of the school year, 8th grade students should be reminded that in order to participate in Promotion Activities; students must meet citizenship as well as academic requirements. Participation in 8th Grade Activity Day requires a total GPA of 5.58, 210 merits and a final grade in citizenship above a D. Students must be have a total GPA of 5.58 in order to be promoted to 9th grade and participate in the promotion ceremony. Students who have not earned this passing GPA will be required to attend summer school in order to start high school in the Fall. Please call any administrator if there are questions about these requirements.
Also in the area of preparation, the Piute staff regularly reviews our Disaster Plan so that we may be well prepared if the need arises. The District’s Disaster and Safety Committee meets on a regular basis to review and update procedures and various drills are held monthly. Students and staff respond promptly and appropriately during the various levels of drills. Fire, Earthquake, and Code Blue drills are held so that students are well aware of the proper procedures.
Please call us with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you might have for improving our programs. We also love to hear from you when things are working well for your child. As always, we welcome your input and support.
Sincerely,
Kathy Lee
