Principal's Message

Spring Greetings!

The final trimester of the 2007-08 school year is here and I would like to thank all of our parents for their support this year.  The support you demonstrate for your student and the school program makes Piute a good place.  We had a wonderful carnival the Friday before Spring Break, with excellent attendance and many students and their families enjoying playing games, eating and socializing with friends.  For all of you that volunteered your time in a booth, or donated supplies, or helped set up or clean up, we thank you and appreciate you!

As we progress through the remainder of the school year, we appreciate your continued support.  Star 9 Testing will be held on the following dates:  April 22 - 24, and April 29 - May 1.  Each testing day will be a minimum day with school dismissed at 11:30.  You can help your student do their best by making sure they get plenty of rest, insuring they eat breakfast before testing, and by making sure they arrive to school each day, on time.  Testing results are used to place students in appropriate classes, both at Piute and in the high schools.   It is critical that students do their very best.

This year, we are providing an additional opportunity for 7th and 8th grade parents of students on Academic Probation to meet with teachers.  A conference day has been scheduled for April 9, 7:00 – 2:00, in Room T-20.  No appointments are necessary; you may come at any time during the day.  If your student is not on Academic Probation, or is a 6th grade student, you may request a meeting at any time by calling the school.   Informational letters will be sent home regarding the conference day, as well as specific information about your student’s Academic Probation status.

8th Grade Promotion is scheduled for the last day of school, June 6.  Before this year, promotions were scheduled by track.  As we are no longer a year round school, promotions have been scheduled by 8th grade homerooms.  The following homerooms and times have been set:  7:45 a.m. Promotion Barnes, Nighbert, Valdez/Kreutel, Peterson, Hazard, Robertson,  Weese, Williamson, Wright  9:00 a.m. Promotion Clark, DiGiovanna,  Farmer, Polacca, Reyna, Mahaffey  10:15 a.m. Promotion Brooks, Murino, Conte, Crowe, Milianta

In all that we do, student attendance is extremely important!  For students to realize their maximum potential, they must have excellent attendance.  As a parent, whatever you can do to allow for every-day, on-time attendance is critical for your student’s success.  We ask that you make every effort to schedule appointments outside of school hours, and to make sure your student wakes up on time so that they arrive at school by 7:20 each morning.

As always, if you have any questions, or if we can be of service, do not hesitate to call or come in.  We are always happy to speak with you.
